Adrian Lupșan — Wildlife Photographer & Local Guide

For Adrian Lupșan, the Carpathians are not simply a place to photograph wildlife — they are home.

Adrian Lupșan photographing wildlife in the Carpathian mountains

Adrian Lupșan · Wildlife Photographer & Local Guide

A passionate and award-winning nature and wildlife photographer from Bistrița-Năsăud, Adrian has spent years exploring the forests and mountains of Northern Transylvania, observing wildlife, studying its behaviour and waiting patiently for those rare moments when everything comes together: the animal, the landscape and the light.

His photographic work focuses on the wildlife of the Romanian Carpathians, including red deer, roe deer, capercaillie, chamois and even the elusive Eurasian lynx, alongside the dramatic mountain landscapes that define this region. His work has received recognition at Fotogeografica, one of Romania’s established nature and geographical photography competitions, where he has been awarded for both landscape and wildlife photography.

But what makes Adrian particularly valuable as a guide is something that cannot be learned from photography alone: his intimate knowledge of the land.

He understands where animals move, how their behaviour changes throughout the seasons, when the light is most favourable and, perhaps most importantly, when to remain still and simply wait. Wildlife photography in the Carpathians cannot be guaranteed or staged. It requires patience, respect for nature and an ability to read the landscape — qualities developed through countless hours spent in the field.

During a Carpathian Reserve Wildlife Photography Experience, Adrian is not simply there to lead you along a trail. He helps you understand the environment, anticipate photographic opportunities and position yourself for the best possible encounter, while respecting the animals and their natural habitat.

From misty mountain mornings and the autumn red deer rut to encounters with some of Europe’s most elusive wildlife, every outing is shaped by natural conditions rather than a fixed script.

Photograph the Carpathians with someone who truly knows them.

With Adrian as your guide and Carpathian Reserve taking care of the organisation around your journey, you can concentrate on what brought you here in the first place:

being in the right place, at the right moment, when the wild reveals itself.
